A renowned Singaporean restaurant steps into the future with its introduction of two new dishes featuring Solein®, the protein out of thin air.

Solein® is redefining traditional Sichuan cuisine favourites without compromising their authentic flavours in classic Sichuan dishes like Mapo Tofu and Sour and Spicy Soup.

Crafted through a pioneering process that transforms carbon dioxide and electricity into protein, Solein is an answer to the global demand for sustainable and versatile protein sources. Its inclusion in Chengdu Bowl's menu represents a bold move towards future-proofing our diets. But what sets these dishes apart isn’t just their environmental benefits; it’s their ability to deliver the rich,  satisfying tastes we crave.

 

Mapo Tofu: A vegan, fit-for-future version of the Sichuan kitchen classic.

Mapo Tofu Reimagined: The classic Mapo Tofu is cooked with tofu set in a spicy and savoury bean sauce, with some minced meat (typically pork) added for flavour, and served with rice.

The Solein-enhanced Mapo Tofu at Chengdu Bowl retains the dish's signature fiery and numbing sensation, with the protein seamlessly blending into the spicy bean sauce, giving it a lush, creamy consistency that rivals its traditional counterpart. The Solein version promises a mouthful of flavours – spicy, savory, with a hint of umami – in every bite, making it a must-try for both traditionalists and culinary adventurers.

Sour and Spicy Soup: Now reimagined with Solein, boasts a bold, zesty flavour profile.

Sour, Spicy, Sustainable: This often meat and egg -based soup gets its spicy elements from white pepper and sour flavours from Zhenjiang vinegar. Most traditional Chinese recipes include day lily buds, wood ear fungus, bamboo shoots, and tofu. 

The soup’s complexity is enhanced by the meatless protein, which absorbs the blend of white pepper and Zhenjiang vinegar, ensuring that every spoonful carries a punch of spice and a sharp, tangy finish. This vegan take doesn't just mimic the original—it elevates it, offering a richer, more nuanced experience.
